Latin American Motorcycle Association (L.A.M.A.) Overview
The Latin American Motorcycle Association (L.A.M.A.) was founded in 1977 in Chicago's infamous Humboldt Park neighborhood. Known as L.A.M.A., the association was established to serve as a motorcycle tourism club grounded in democratic and freedom ideals. Initially, Chicago was the only chapter until the first sister chapter opened in Miami in 1996. That same year, a National Association was formed when the first national president was elected.
In 1999, L.A.M.A. expanded into an International Association by establishing chapters in Puerto Rico, Mexico, the USA, and Cuba. Today, L.A.M.A. boasts chapters in 25 countries across six continents.
To celebrate the millennium in 2000, the president of L.A.M.A. International created the L.A.M.A. International Motorcycle Association, also known by its acronym I.M.A., to globalize L.A.M.A. In 2006, the International President introduced the Friendly Sport of Motorcycle Tourism, which now hosts Regional, National, Continental, and World Championships annually.
L.A.M.A./I.M.A. was designed to be a model for 21st-century motorcycle clubs, an ongoing project fueled by new ideas from members around the world. It has evolved into a "borderless" international humanist association that welcomes working individuals from all walks of life, without discrimination based on nationality, race, color, religion, social class, gender, age, motorcycle brand, and more.
The mission of L.A.M.A./I.M.A. is to promote peace, love, harmony, and non-violence worldwide, demonstrating through our collective example that we can all coexist in peace.
L.A.M.A./I.M.A. is one of the most respected motorcycle associations globally. Membership opens doors in cities with sister chapters and clubs, providing opportunities to connect with fellow members, especially in other nations.
We take pride in being one of the most active long-distance riding associations. Our Ladies of L.A.M.A., female riders, accompany us on their own motorcycles, often covering extreme distances that many find daunting. Both our male and female members frequently undertake these lengthy rides, showcasing the essential roles women play within the organization.
The statutes and regulations of L.A.M.A./I.M.A. have been created, compiled, modified, and adapted over 44 years of experience. While it’s not our intention to carry around a heavy book of rules just to enjoy riding, having clear guidelines is beneficial during challenging moments or to clarify specific situations.
WELCOME TO L.A.M.A./I.M.A.! YOU ARE NOW PART OF THE BEST RIDERS' ASSOCIATION IN THE WORLD. WE CHALLENGE YOU TO HELP US IMPROVE IT.
